                                                  About Us

The environmental passion behind Book Drives Inc began long ago when its founder James Fink was still quite young.  As a boy, James was brought up learning about the environment along the shores of the Hudson River.  His grandmother wrote songs for Pete Seeger, environmental extraordinaire which led to volunteer work on the Woody Guthrie Sloop supported by Clearwater.

James was brought up listening to the music of John Denver absorbing its environmental messages like a sponge.  While it took nearly 30 years James finally stood atop the Rockies when he successfully summited Longs Peak in the Rocky Mountain National Park.  While on the way down descending the side of a nearly sheer drop cliff James received a cell phone call requesting a pickup of collected books from Cornell University.  James promptly set up the pickup and continued with the descent.  The commitment to the environment and his customers is deep seated.

Book Drives Inc began in the basement of an apartment building quickly moving into an unheated storage building where James single-handedly processed every order using a lantern for light and pens that often froze.  As word of the program spread and the company began to expand it was moved to a small store front and then ultimately into the warehouse space used today.

The environmental commitment has always been the key for Book Drives Inc.  Reusing materials, recycling textbooks and planting trees all the while returning more money per book back to organizations then any other program worldwide gives James a sense of accomplishment and pride.

                                                                                             How the program works

The Book Drives Inc recycling program is an easy and fun way to help your campus and community raise funds for your environmental programs or any program you want to support for that matter while reducing waste and planting trees.

Book Drives Inc will provide you with all the necessary materials to collect the materials your ready to recycle.  Textbooks, trade books, CDs, DVDs, cell phones, MP3 players, PDAs are all items we can accept at this time.  There are a few items we cannot accept such as moldy and dirty books, magazines (can be recycled through programs you probably already have in place) and encyclopedia sets.

Book collections on campuses are typically held during end of semester buybacks for books the wholesalers are no longer offering students money for.  Campus collections can also include library discards, dorm clean outs and professor books no longer being used.  Campuses can also set up electronics collections boxes at strategic locations.

Once you are ready to have the collected items picked up, simply fill out the form on this web site or call us.  We will arrange everything to be picked up at our expense to be delivered to our warehouse in New Britain Connecticut.

Once the items are delivered to our warehouse our staff will sort everything out.  Anything we can sell for you will be made available through marketplaces all over the world.  Prices will be set competitively using the most advanced tools available to insure you receive the best possible prices in the fastest possible time.  Often pricing will be adjusted several times before your item sells.

The items we are unable to sell for you are recycled in full.  Nothing goes to landfills.

As your items sell we provide money back to you for 22% of the gross sale price.  Unlike others who pay out small percentages of the profits the companies receive we are giving you a full cut of the sale price where all expenses are our responsibility.  This equates to what is often more then 4 times that of other and in some case as much as 10 times or more.

For every item sold on your behalf we fully fund the planting of a tree through a non profit organization that helps remove carbon, provide oxygen, reforests decimated land and provides countless homes to the earths creatures.

Some hints to make your collections more successful are to advertise advertise and advertise some more.  We can provide posters that we designed or you can design your own!  A campus wide e-mail can go a long way and of course making sure your collection boxes are quite visible helps a lot too.  We can also help you with press releases for your local and campus newspapers.
