A book drive works just like any other collection program. Simply ask students to recycle their used
text books they are no longer using that cannot be bought back. You will assign
a coordinator to oversee the entire process from start to finish. The coordinator will need to contact all
necessary campus departments for approval (BDI can assist in providing this
information).
An advertising campaign
will need to be put into place through avenues such as campus
newspaper/TV/Radio, Facebook page, send out a campus wide email, and word of
mouth to name a few ideas. Determine the
dates and locations of the drives when book buy back on campus occurs, and then
coordinate helpers and collectors for the locations.
Collect the text books as they are dropped off during the time of collection and pack then up securely into boxes that BDI can supply. Once the drive is over, organize and prepare the boxes for pickup; then contact BDI to arrange for shipping of material back to BDI.
Bookstores participating in the program will find it easiest to coordinate the
collection with their buyback at the end of each academic term. Overstock books
can be included as well. We encourage the bookstore to take the lead on campus
to ensure the book drives are run with integrity and generate funds directly
for the campus.
Once we receive your items, they are scanned into our inventory/sales system, where they are coded specifically for your organization. The items are made available for sale to millions of consumers worldwide through a multitude of online marketplaces. When each item is sold, 22% of what we get for each item is returned to your organization. Checks are sent in late January/early February and again in late September each year.
The more effort that is put into planning and organizing, the more successful the drive will be.
